Calgary-based Absolute Fire Solutions (AFS) has obtained patents in the U.S. and Canada for the actuator and control technology in its FAST Bucket. The approvals in North America follow similar patents in Australia. According to AFS President Steve Matthews, the company purchased the technology from its Australian inventors in 2006. The new actuator and control system “gives pilots more control,” Matthews noted. “They can alter bucket volume and disbursements based on the demand and performance of the helicopter. No one will know that better than the pilots and now they have the ability to make those choices.”
