Frank Robinson, founder of Torrance, Calif.-based Robinson Helicopter Co., retired as president and chairman on August 10 after 37 years at the helm. The board elected his son, Kurt Robinson, to assume both leadership roles. The rest of company’s upper management will remain the same. Frank Robinson says he planned to retire at the start of 2010 in tandem with his 80th birthday, but decided to remain until the design of the R66 was in place. Kurt Robinson—who began working at the company in 1987—says that “while there is no one person that can replace Frank,” a strong group of managers have been at Robinson Helicopter for 20-plus years.
