Two U.S. west coast Kaman K-MAX operators are keeping busy in recent weeks. Kirkland, Wash.-based Rainier Heli-International’s K-MAX (shown here) helped contain the Bull Fire in August northeast of Bakersfield, Calif. The work fell under a U.S. Forest Service contract.

Under a separate agreement involving a U.S. government contract, Swanson Group Aviation’s K-MAX transferred 2.45 million pounds of massive rocks to the top of Mt. Lassen National Park in northern California. The boulder haul was conducted using a bucket system specifically designed to move rocks while hovering. (From October 2010 Rotorcraft Report)
