The New South Wales Police Force recently added a Eurocopter EC135 P2+ to its aviation support branch, PolAir 4. The EC135 replaces PolAir 4’s current single-engine helicopter. PolAir 4’s fleet also includes two single-engine Eurocopter Squirrels, one twin-engine Squirrel, one twin-engine Kawasaki BK117 and one fixed-wing aircraft. The helicopter is outfitted with a Nitesun FLIR camera, a two-person winch and a cockpit design that allows for a greater field of vision for the flight crew. PolAir 4 pilots underwent a four-week specialized training course at Eurocopter’s facility in Germany. The helicopter is expected to be operational and patrolling the Wollongong, Sydney and Newcastle areas within a few months.
