French public utility, RTE (Electricity Transmission Network), has launched a subsidiary, Airtelis. The company will specialize in airborne operations for France and Europe. Airtelis received its first helicopter—a Eurocopter EC225—which will assist with the construction, maintenance and surveillance of high-voltage overhead power lines. For Airtelis, Eurocopter designed an integrated sling system for the EC225 cabin, which deploys electrical cables during flight. EASA certification of the sling is pending and Eurocopter expects operations to start in 2012.
