Bedford, Texas-based Night Flight Concepts has agreed to provide its Laser Armor light interference filters (LIFs) for the Tampa Police Department’s Aviation Unit. The filters are designed to protect pilots from the effects of a laser pointer being shined into the cockpit from the ground—a growing problem that affects helicopters and other low-flying aircraft. According to Night Flight Concepts, Laser Armor reduces “the blooming effect significantly,” allowing the pilot’s night vision goggles (NVGs) to function normally. Tampa PD flies two Bell 407s, one Bell 206 and a military surplus Hughes OH-6.
