EADS subsidiary Eurocopter has announced plans to showcase its X3 (X-cube) hybrid demonstrator in the U.S. starting in June. The first stop on the summer tour will be American Eurocopter headquarters in Grand Prairie, Texas on June 20, said Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling during the American Helicopter Society (AHS) International Forum in early May. Bertling and a team of engineers including Jean-Jacques Ferrier, vice president of innovation, accepted the Howard Hughes award for the X3 from AHS during Forum 68, held from May 1-3 in Fort Worth.

Bertling stressed the importance of giving potential U.S. operators a “first-hand experience” to see and fly the X3. Eurocopter is targeting various commercial sectors with the X3, including law enforcement, EMS and military operators such as the U.S. Army, Coast Guard and Navy, and agencies such as Customs and Border Protection, Drug Enforcement Agency and FBI.
