Russian Helicopters and AgustaWestland uncovered plans at Farnborough International Airshow on Tuesday to develop a single-engine light helicopter in the 2.5-ton class. The 50/50 joint venture builds on a previous partnership between the two manufacturers, which created HeliVert in 2010. HeliVert assembles AW139s in Tomilino, near Moscow. AgustaWestland CEO Bruno Spagnolini and Russian Helicopters CEO Dmitry Petrov were on hand at Farnborough to ink the agreement, with Spagnolini remarking that the deal represents the “next step” toward addressing “the future needs of the worldwide market.”
