Bell Helicopter has obtained approval to increase the gross weight of the 429 from the Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil in Argentina. This follows Transport Canada’s authorization to raise to the weight limit by 500 lbs to 7,500 lbs in January 2012, with other countries following. Bell has now received approval for the weight change in 11 countries. Bell has also secured an order from Air Methods for a second 429 that will see service with Mercy One in Des Moines, Iowa. The Des Moines base already has one 429, which received an EMS package from United Rotorcraft. The Air Methods division will also outfit the newest helicopter with advanced life support system that can accommodate two patients.
