Eurocopter’s subsidiary in Japan delivered two EC135s in late January. The National Police Agency (NPA) has received an EC135T2 that will enter service with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) for missions around the Tokyo prefecture. NPA’s fleet has 28 Eurocopter variants, including seven EC135s and 13 BK117s (EC145s). MPD also operates an EC155B1 in a number of roles including police, search and rescue, surveillance and air medical.

The manufacturer has also given the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) the keys to its 10th EC135 training helicopter, or TH135. Eurocopter handed over the first TH135 in December 2009 as part of a fleet replacement program. JMSDF has conducted TH135 training since November 2011, with instrument training incorporated into the program in April 2012.
