The International Helicopter Safety Team, or IHST (Booth C1103) has released new figures that show the total number of civil helicopter accidents in the U.S. continued to trend downward while private aircraft accidents are up. From 2010 to 2012, there were 411 total rotorcraft accidents—lower than the three-year period from 2007-2009, which saw 466 total accidents. Training flights also saw a decrease from 111 accidents from 2007-2009 to 81 from 2010-2012. But the data also revealed that the number of accidents involved in private helicopter flights went up, from 96 during the three-year period from 2007-2009 to 102 during 2010-2012.
