Columbus Lakota Production Line Gets New Director

American Eurocopter has hired Mike Spears to serve as senior director of the UH-72A Lakota Production and Retrofit facility in Columbus, Miss. He will take over from Fred Gerard, senior director of LUH Production, who has accepted a job at Airbus in Mobile, Ala. Gerard has led Lakota production since the program began in 2006. Spears will lead helicopter repairs and modifications and work with U.S. Army and government operators. He previously worked as general manager at the Sikorsky Aircraft production facility in Troy, Ala. While at Sikorsky he oversaw a group of 800 people working on the U.S. Navy H-60 repairs/modifications program for in-country and foreign military sales (FMS) contracts.
