The U.S. Navy has granted an $8.4-million extension of an existing contract to Rolls-Royce of Indianapolis for further engineering services related to the AE 1107C powerplants on the Bell Boeing MV-22s fleet. Seventy percent of the engine support work will take place in Oakland, Calif., with the remaining 30 percent in Indianapolis. Funding for the contract comes from the Navy’s operations and maintenance, overseas contingency operations budget for fiscal year 2013. The agreement covers up to 11,020 flight hours for deployments with U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Units, including in Afghanistan.
