Russian Helicopters has wrapped up a series of test flights with its Kamov Ka-226T multi-purpose helicopter in preparation for the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The test flights were conducted in the Krasnaya Polyana region near Sochi. Equipped with a medical module, the flights simulated potential emergency scenarios that may occur during the games. Both medical personnel and Russian test pilots practiced SAR missions in mountainous terrain. The modified Ka-226T airframe allows EMS transport to occur while “maintaining a patient’s vital functions,” according to Russian Helicopters. Completion of the test flights allows the Ka-226T to be deployed when the games begin in February 2014.
