Eurocopter and AeroVironment signed a cooperative agreement during the AUSA annual meeting in late October to begin exploring new collaborative opportunities. The partnership will focus on combining AeroVironment's unmanned aircraft expertise with Eurocopter's experience manufacturing helicopters, with the possibility of expanding into new markets and developing new technologies. The partnership follows the recent launch of Eurocopter's optionally piloted vehicle (OPV) program, which employed an unmanned EC145 to perform a surveillance mission and deploy an external sling load. Both companies say they're looking to develop products for the military and commercial unmanned markets.
