The U.S. Army’s 1-229th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion has transitioned the first Boeing AH-64E Apache into initial operating capability (IOC) status. The battalion, referred to as “Tigersharks,” received the first AH-64E in January 2013, putting the helicopter through fielding and individual training through May 2013.

The helicopter has completed three rotations at the National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Erwin, Calif.; High Altitude Mountainous Environment Training (HAMET) in Idaho, and with Japanese AH-64Ds at Yakima Training Center in Washington as part of Operation Rising Thunder.
