AgustaWestland's AW169, shown flying in northern Italy, received EASA type certification July 15, 2015.
With a new EASA type certificate in hand, AgustaWestland is preparing to deliver the first of more than 150 AW169s ordered to date. The European Aviation Safety Agency issued the type certificate July 15, less than five years after the program was launched. The manufacturer said the Pratt & Whitney PW210A-powered light intermediate twin complies with the latest amendments of EASA CS-29/FAR Part 29. The first of the 10,000-pound-class, 10-passenger helicopters will be delivered from AW’s Vergiate, Italy plant. The company is setting up a second final assembly line at its Philadelphia plant. AW said orders for the AW169 have come from operators in the executive/corporate transport, air ambulance, law enforcement, offshore transport and utility sectors.
