Sources tell R&WI that Sky Helicopters has won an FAA contract to provide flight training for the agency's aviation safety inspectors in the Robinson Helicopter R44. The company will provide the "Helicopter Indoctrination Course" for the FAA personnel from its new heliport in DeSoto, Texas, south of Dallas. Based on the FAA's original request for proposals, the company also is to provide a "newly developed prototype Helicopter IFR/VFR course." The RFP called for the winning contractor to provide nine certificated flight instructors and four to eight IFR-capable R44s. Sky Helicopters should start work on the seven-month contract on Oct. 19. In addition to operating a helicopter flight school and providing electronic newsgathering services, Sky Helicopter runs that heliport and one in Garland, Texas, northeast of Dallas.
