Simplex Aerospace expects to receive FAA supplemental type certification of its SkyCannon firefighting system for the Eurocopter EC225 shortly, with reciprocal approval from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau soon thereafter. Simplex received an order in 2013 from Japan Aerospace for the SkyCannon as a tool for battling high-rise fires in Tokyo. The SkyCannon is intended to "take the capabilities of a ground-based fire truck and put it in the sky," according to Simplex, which is designing the system for the Kamov Ka-26 as well as the Super Puma and also plans to develop models for the Sikorsky Aircraft H-60 and AVIC AC313. The SkyCannon system consists of a composite belly tank, high-pressure spray boom and hose system to refill the tank from lakes or rivers, which most of the world's major cities have.
