Era Group has begun flying the Sikorsky Aircraft S-92 in offshore transport revenue service in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Era, a leading U.S. helicopter transport operator, took delivery of its first S-92 in March; it said the first revenue flight of that aircraft took place today. Era accepted its second S-92 in June under a multi-year contract. The company’s S-92s include a gross weight expansion that increases the maximum takeoff weight from 26,500 to 27,700 lb, which the operator says allows each S-92 to carry an additional 1,200 lb of payload. Era President/CEO Chris Bradshaw said the S-92 provides “our customers with additional alternatives for deepwater oil and gas missions.” Sikorsky has delivered more than 250 S-92s, the first of which entered service in 2004.
