The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAANZ) has granted type acceptance to MD Helicopters’ twin-engine MD 900/902 Explorer. The model was given an FAA type certificate and entered U.S. service in 1994, according to MD, and has been used primarily for helicopter EMS, law enforcement and para-military operations. The latest type acceptance clears the way for restriction-free import to and operation of the 900/902 throughout New Zealand. MD already provides single-engine rotorcraft to New Zealand with its 500-series aircraft. “Type Acceptance of the MD 900/902 will allow us to serve a broader segment of New Zealand’s rotorcraft operators who require enhanced gross weight, VFR/IFR operations,” said Craig Kitchen, MD’s chief commercial officer.
