The U.K.’s National Police Air Service plans to close 10 of 25 helicopter bases across the country next year to help reduce budget shortfalls, according to a report in northwest England's The Sentinel newspaper. The newspaper, based about 35 nm southeast of Liverpool in Stoke, said the move should help the service cut costs by up to 11 million British pounds ($16 million). Police officials have assured Britons that the cuts will have no effect on the provision of police services throughout the country and that law enforcement helicopters still will be available when needed.
