The Canadian Coast Guard accepted the last of 15 Bell Helicopter 429 light-lift helicopters into its fleet. Mirabel-based Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Ltd. was awarded the contract in May 2014.
The Guard said 12 of the new helicopters are already in service across the country, including Shearwater, Nova Scotia. A second will be delivered to Shearwater later this month. The remaining three aircraft are supporting pilot training, but they too will be deployed to their operational bases.
The new aircraft can fly farther and carry greater payload than the Eurocopter MBB BO-105s they are replacing. In addition, they provide a range of safety enhancements over the existing aircraft.
