Dallas-based Protective Packaging Corp. can help preserve idled helicopters through a cost-efficient packaging solution, as it has demonstrated on a helicopter operator serving offshore rigs in the North Sea. The downturn in the energy industry has idled millions of dollars of oil and gas equipment worldwide, including the nearly a fifth of the helicopters used to ferry workers and equipment to offshore rigs, according to The Wall Street Journal. Company CEO Steve Hanna said the solution is cheaper than controlled environment warehouses or hangars.

The packaging controlled the environment around the idled aircraft from corrosion, mold, mildew and other factors. It also provided access to the blades for periodic rotations during storage. No corrosion was guaranteed for at least five years.
