A fleet of Sikorsky S-61A-4 Nuris will be getting an upgrade, thanks to the latest Universal Avionics and Heli-One endeavor, according to a company news release. This cockpit upgrade will feature Universal's EFI-890H Advanced Flight Displays and Multi-Missions Management System (MMMS). Heli-One, an authorized Universal Avionics dealer, will perform the design and installation on the first aircraft, with an Asian maintenance, repair and overhaul company taking over for the remaining helicopters.
The S-61 upgrade also includes a single UNS-1Lw MMMS, Universal's flight management system for mission support. The displays and MMMS integrate with new dual LCR-100 Attitude Heading Reference System sensors, dual Thommen AC-32 Air Data Computers, dual Rockwell Collins NAV-4000s, DF-938 Direction Finder, a single DME-4000 and a new EuroAvionics EuroNav 7 Mission Computer. A new RDR-1600 search radar is being fitted to go on the displays, which are compatible with night-vision goggles.
With the new flight deck, aircraft can fly in all whether conditions, both day and night. It will also extend the lifespan of the aircraft. The first installation will be completed by the end of March 2017.
