Elbit Systems Ltd. is set to maintain dozens of Russian Helicopters Mi-17s for an Asia-Pacific customer, the company said. With a contract worth $110 million, work will be performed for a five-year period.

"We are very pleased to have won this major helicopter upgrade project and for the opportunity to implement our unique and innovative avionic solutions," said Bezhalel "Butzi" Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems. "Since the 'aging helicopter' market is growing rapidly and includes numerous Eastern platforms, we hope other customers will follow the selection of our modernization solutions."

The company has experience in rotary-wing modernization, including conversion into multi-role platforms, upgrading platforms, supplying systems, and providing full maintenance and support packages.

Depending on variant and equipment, the Russian Helicopters Mi-8/17 (-17 indicates a foreign designation) has transport, search and rescue, and combat capabilities. One of the latest versions is an "Arctic" variant — the Russian Helicopters Mi-8AMTSh-VA.
