Leonardo Conducts NH90, AW139 Dealings

The Pakistani government has placed an order for additional Leonardo AW139s, Leonardo announced Feb. 20. While the quantity of aircraft has not been disclosed, deliveries are expected to start mid-2017.

The first of 10 NHInudstries NH90s was recently delivered to the Italian Navy, Leonardo announced Feb. 21. Designated as “MH-90,” the helicopter is to be used for amphibious support and Special Forces operations, configured for naval tactical transport.

Not only is the Italian Navy planning to receive more MH-90s, but it has also asked Leonardo to upgrade its NHIndustries NH90 fleet. Worth some $11.6 million, the contract has the manufacturer replacing legacy identification friend or foe (IFF) systems with the latest “Mode 5” upgrade. This would allow the fleet to work on joint operations with NATO allies post 202 when the standard is set to be mandate, Leonardo said in its Feb. 21 announcement.
