Astronautics Corp. of America said it is teaming with JAGID Management to deliver a portable intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance cockpit situational awareness and communications system expanding ground-based operations for law enforcement and military operators around the world. SmartCopter is the new roll-on/roll-off communication suite and will include the Astronautics NEXIS server and an optional NEXIS display unit in the cockpit. It will also feature a wireless electronic flight bag interface.

The company also said it is pursuing a supplemental type certificate for its RoadRunner electronic flight instrument. The system was announced last year during Heli-Expo. It is an upgrade for helicopters previously using electromechanical instruments and legacy EFIs. Flight trials for the EFI will begin in early April, with STC approval expected this year. The RoadRunner will be displayed at Vector Aerospace's booth (1612) as part of the Airbus Helicopters AStar.
