The black box from an Irish Coast Guard Sikorsky S-92, provided by CHC Helicopter, has been detected about eight miles off the County Mayo coast, local new outlets reported. Search efforts are ongoing to locate the three missing Irish Coast Guard crew members after the helicopter crashed off the coast on Tuesday.

A feint transponder signal coming from the black box was reportedly found in 130 feet of water by the Marine Institute seabed surveyors from the Celtic Voyager, which was working with smaller vessels. A precise location must be confirmed before employing divers. There is no confirmation that the S-92 is in the same location as its black box. News outlets reported that there are no current plans to ground the Irish Coast Guard’s fleet of CHC Helicopter Sikorsky S-92s.

The Guard rotorcraft was reportedly en route for a routine refuel on the coast when it disappeared. One of the four crew members has been pronounced dead.
