Sikorsky has delivered a second S-92 configured for search and rescue operations to the South Korea Coast Guard, the manufacturer said June 27.

Since March 2014, South Korea's guard has operated a single S-92, which has flown 850 flight hours. The unit's recent mission June 2 resulted in the rescue of a 50-year-old man from a ship. The helicopter was able to transport him to a hospital in 30 minutes, Sikorsky said.

R&WI recently spoke with representatives from the guard unit during Heli-Expo in Dallas, Texas, earlier this year after a ceremony in which its crews received the Sikorsky Winged-S Rescue Award. Those representatives said one month after receiving its first S-92, the unit had been involved in the high-profile disaster involving an MV Sewol ferry that had capsized off the southern coast.

Sikorsky said the unit will conduct training in the country, and the aircraft will enter service by the end of the year.
