Russian Helicopters will produce a prototype for its planned light utility helicopter, called VRT500 and designed by VR-Technologies design bureau, by the end of 2019, the manufacturer said.

According to a company press release, strength tests for the helicopter's rotor system are now underway. Russian Helicopters said VR-Technologies will begin aerodynamic tests in the near term. The plan for the aircraft had first been announced at MAKS 2017 in July.

The helicopter is expected to be supplied in the following configurations: passenger, utility, cargo, training, VIP and medevac.

The manufacturer said the VRT500 would be the first medevac helicopter with a maximum takeoff weight of two tons.
