Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first two of six H145s to Swiss Air-Rescue Rega to replace the air medical service's existing fleet of six EC145s by mid-2019. Airbus said the first H145 will be deployed to Rega's base in Bern, Switzerland, in October.
Rega is amidst updating its fleet of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. In April, the operator received its first of three Bombardier Challenger 650s, replacing its earlier-generation Challenger 604 fleet. It also is working with Leonardo on three new all-weather Leonardo AW169-FIPS helicopters with anti-icing systems. Those are expected to be delivered by 2021. It will be the first light helicopter with true all-weather flight capability.
Rega operates a total of 18 helicopters and three jets, including 11 Leonardo Da Vincis — a Rega-specific airframe based off the AW109 Grand — and an Airbus H125.
