Brazil's Icon Aviation has become an official distributor for the Leonardo AW109 Trekker in the country, the manufacturer said at the LABACE business aviation event in Sao Paulo.

The operator has been providing charter services with other AW109 and AW139 variants and "could possibly be extended to additional models," according to a company statement. Icon has five main bases in Brazil and offers both fixed- and rotorcraft charter flights.

The Trekker has seen successes in other Latin American markets including Chile. There are more than 200 Leonardo helicopters in Brazil serving in commercial, public service and military operations.

Leonardo's VIP-configured AW169, which is on display at LABACE, is set to undergo a demo tour in Brazil after the show.

The Trekker is based on the AW109/Grand family of aircraft.
