Leonardo recently delivered its twin-engine AW189 helicopter to fire departments in Malaysia and South Korea, with Japan’s Tokyo Fire Department soon to follow, joining a number of AW139 and AW169 rotorcraft already used for emergency response and disaster relief across the Asia-Pacific.

Leonardo continues to play a major role in the region’s helicopter market, particularly in Malaysia. In addition to a regional hub for customer support and training near Kuala Lumpur, Leonardo’s Asia-Pacific launch customer for the AW189 was Malaysian operator WestStar Aviation, taking delivery of the aircraft in July 2014.

The Italian manufacturer says it has the “strongest growth prospects” for all its aerospace and defense offerings in the Asia-Pacific region.
