Weststar Aviation Services is set to introduce its new light twin AW169 into service, making it the first company globally to use the AW139, AW189 and AW169 concurrently in its operations.
The Malaysia-based company will use the new helo for offshore services in Africa, supporting oil and gas operations in Equatorial Guinea.
"The partnership between Weststar Aviation Services Malaysia and Leonardo has been a key factor in Weststar’s overseas business expansion,” said Ibrahim Syed Azman, group managing director of The Weststar Group. “The AW169, AW139 and AW189 are the most successful new generation models in their class worldwide, and the most demanded helicopter types in the oil & gas industry.”
Weststar operates more than 35 Leonardo helicopters out of its bases in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. There are now nearly 60 Leonardo helicopters in Malaysia, according to the company, supported by a regional customer support and training hub at Subang Airport near Kuala Lumpur.
